NSU-Broken Arrow to kickoff holiday season with Gazebo Glow event

NSU-Broken Arrow to kickoff holiday season with Gazebo Glow event - Dec. 4

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – Northeastern State University’s Broken Arrow campus is bringing family-friendly fun to the BA/Tulsa area with Gazebo Glow, an event that will kick off the campus’ holiday celebration on Dec. 4.

The special event is the first of its kind on the BA campus, and is a continuation of the NSU tradition of celebrating the holidays with the surrounding community—at no cost.

“I am hopeful that this will be the kickoff to a great NSU-Broken Arrow tradition that will morph into something bigger in the future,” said Dr. Eruore Hopkins, director of operations and community relations. “This event highlights NSU's ability to work together to provide opportunities for our greater community. The community is invited to participate in this event. This invitation highlights yet another way NSUBA partners with the community and enjoys having community members on our campus.”

Katie Cochran, associate director of Student Engagement, said there was a desire from staff members and students to bring a holiday event similar to those held on the Tahlequah campus to NSUBA. She said the event is a result of the efforts of several NSU departments and a private donor to ensure that the event would be enjoyable for members of the community, students, staff and faculty members.

“I have been a member of the Broken Arrow campus for almost 7 years and after seeing the stunning holiday light tradition on the Tahlequah campus, I wanted to try to have the same tradition on the Broken Arrow campus for our students, faculty, staff, and community to enjoy as well,” Julia Rogers, assistant director of Physical Plant. “I knew we would need to start on a smaller scale than what is currently on the Tahlequah campus, and when we received a private donation for the gazebo area, I thought this would be a wonderful place to start our Broken Arrow holiday light tradition. I can't wait to see the beautiful lights on our beautiful Broken Arrow campus!”

Hopkins said attendees can expect a welcome from university provost, Dr. Carla Swearingen with Peggy Glenn, director of development, who will share the significance of the Gazebo on the campus.

There will be cookies and hot chocolate for attendees to enjoy, plus a chance for children to write a letter to Santa in addition to the traditional holiday lighting ceremony.

Gazebo Glow takes place on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 4:45 p.m. at the NSU Broken Arrow campus Gazebo, which resides between the Science and Liberal Arts buildings.

The event is sponsored by the NSU Office of Student Engagement, a private donor, the NSU Foundation and Facilities.
