Northeastern State University welcomes veteran & best-selling author Craig Grossi to campus – Oct. 7

Tahlequah, Okla. — Northeastern State University will welcome bestselling author and Marine Corps veteran Craig Grossi to campus on Oct. 7 as part of the university’s 2025 Common Read Program.

“Second Chances” continues the story of Grossi and his dog, Fred, sharing their experiences with incarcerated veterans in Maine who train service dogs for disabled vets. The book underscores themes of resilience, hope and the power of second chances—core ideas NSU students are exploring this year.

During his visit, Grossi will connect with students over lunch, join a classroom discussion and deliver a keynote address at 6 p.m. in the Center for the Performing Arts. The keynote will be followed by a Q&A session and book signing.

“As a veteran, I am especially moved by Craig Grossi’s story,” NSU President Rodney Hanley said. “Second Chances” shines a light on the challenges many veterans face, while also showing the incredible strength that comes from service, purpose and hope. His work reminds us that healing and redemption are possible in every chapter of life, and that message is sure to be powerful for our students and community.”

Established in 2016, the NSU Common Read encourages first-year students to connect through a shared learning experience while fostering dialogue and critical thinking across campus.

This event is free and open to the public. For details, visit https://academicaffairs.nsuok.edu/CommonRead.aspx or contact Academic Affairs at 918-444-2060 or academicaffairs@nsuok.edu.
