NSU Continuing Education to offer free courses over holiday break
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State University is giving the gift of education this holiday season by offering three non-credit micro-credential learning and development courses free of charge. Courses are available to all adults in the workforce as well as working youth aged 16-18.
This free opportunity is part of NSU’s dedication to promoting a skilled workforce culture and development in northeast Oklahoma and beyond.
“Education is certainly an investment, but it’s also a gift,” NSU President Rodney Hanley said. “In the spirit of the season, NSU is excited to offer this unique opportunity to members of the workforce to learn valuable skills at no cost.”
Available courses include: Conflict Management, Communication Essentials and Building a Better Mindset.
Conflict Management focuses on the role of communication in conflict and dispute resolution. This course examines several settings including interpersonal relations, small group decision-making, intergroup conflict, organizational conflict and cross-cultural conflict among others.
Communication Essentials offers tools to maximize effective communication by outlining key concepts related to customer service, conflict resolution and presentation skills.
Building a Better Mindset explores mindset training, which helps employees develop a growth mindset, improve their skills, overcome challenges and boost their performance in the workplace. This course focuses on the research that shows the view people can adopt for themselves profoundly affects the way they live their lives.
Courses will be taught by NSU professors Dr. Dana Eversole and Dr. Renee Cambiano.
Eversole has spent more than three decades teaching media at the institution. She was awarded the Teacher of the Year by the Oklahoma Society of Professional Journalists in 2019 and the Lois Thomas Award of Distinguished Merit in Teaching from the University of Oklahoma.
