Northeastern State University to host Indigenous People’s Day Celebration - Oct 13
Tahlequah, Okla. – Northeastern State University invites the public to celebrate Indigenous People’s Day on Oct. 13, 2025, with a full afternoon and evening of cultural activities and community connections.
“Indigenous Peoples’ Day is an opportunity for NSU and the surrounding community to come together and support the Indigenous community, learn about our history, and celebrate our resilience during a meaningful cultural gathering,” Elizabeth Bird, director of the Center for Tribal Studies, said.
“Participants will enjoy a contemporary gathering with traditional games, basket-making, a solidarity march and Native American dance. We wish to share a message of hope for our future, respect for our past, and love for our community through this event.”
The celebration will take place on the Tahlequah campus and will feature traditional games, crafts, a community dinner and a solidarity march honoring the enduring strength, heritage and contributions of Indigenous peoples across Oklahoma and beyond.
Schedule of Events:
2–5:30 p.m. – Traditional Games & Crafts
5–6 p.m. – Community Dinner
5:30 p.m. – Indigenous People’s Day Address featuring Dr. Hanley and a guest speaker
6:30 p.m. – Solidarity March beginning at Beta Field, continuing around campus to the Sequoyah Statue and concluding near Seminary Hall for a Round Dance
7:15 p.m. – Event Breakdown and Cleanup
All community members, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in the celebration.
