Apply now for the Inspired to Teach Scholarship at Northeastern State University

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State University is encouraging full-time students pursuing or considering a degree in education to apply for the Inspired to Teach Scholarship.

The scholarship is open to eligible education majors—from freshmen through seniors—who are enrolled full time at NSU or another participating institution. In addition to annual financial assistance during undergraduate studies, recipients who go on to teach in an Oklahoma public school may qualify for employment incentives totaling up to $20,000 over their first five years in the classroom.

NSU President Rodney Hanley, a first-generation college graduate, emphasized the importance of the program.

“I know firsthand how life-changing a chance to teach and inspire future generations can be,” Hanley said. “By investing in our future educators today, we’re building stronger classrooms, communities and the workforce Oklahomans deserve. This scholarship is more than financial support—it’s a bridge into classrooms where students will experience belonging, possibility and purpose in Oklahoma.”

The deadline for new applicants is Sept. 5. Students who have previously received the scholarship do not need to reapply unless they are transferring to a different institution.

Dr. Kelli Carney, assistant dean of the College of Education at NSU, said the program supports both access to education and retention of quality teachers in the state.

“This program is a meaningful investment in the future of education in Oklahoma,” Carney said. “It not only helps students navigate the cost of college but also rewards their long-term commitment to teaching in our state.”
