Northeastern State University launches Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics degree

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — In response to the explosive growth of artificial intelligence and data-driven decision-making in today’s economy, Northeastern State University has announced a new Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics, launching this fall semester.

The program positions NSU at the forefront of tech-forward education in Oklahoma, empowering students to harness the power of AI and data across a wide range of industries—from healthcare and cybersecurity to finance and manufacturing.

“Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming every sector of our economy,” NSU President Rodney Hanley, said. “At NSU, we are committed to preparing our students for the world as it will be—not just as it is. This new degree reflects our mission to equip future leaders with the tools, knowledge and ethical grounding to thrive in the AI-driven workforce.”

The interdisciplinary curriculum merges core business fundamentals with hands-on technical training in AI tools, machine learning, data analytics and database management. It’s designed to reflect real-world industry needs and evolving workforce demands.

“We’re proud to offer a program that not only teaches the latest technologies but also emphasizes human-centered problem solving, communication and responsible AI use,” Dr. Janet Buzzard, Dean of the College of Business & Technology, said. “This is about more than just coding—it’s about preparing leaders who understand the impact of data and AI on people, communities and the world.”

Key features of the program include:

  • Specialized instruction in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analysis and ethical tech practices.
  • Elective tracks in cybersecurity, health informatics and business analytics to support diverse career goals.
  • Real-world experience through industry partnerships, internships and projects guided by the program’s advisory board.
  • A blend of technical and business-focused coursework to build versatile, workforce-ready graduates.

Graduates of the program will be equipped for high-demand roles such as data analysts, AI engineers, business intelligence developers and technology consultants—filling critical gaps in Oklahoma’s and the nation’s workforce.
