NSU to kick off holiday season with Lights On, Good Yule – Nov. 28

NSU to kick off holiday season with Lights On, Good Yule – Nov. 28

TAHLEQUAH, Okla.  — Northeastern State University is kicking off the holiday season with the annual Lights On event on Nov. 28 at 5:30 p.m. in front of Seminary Hall.

This year marks the 31st year of celebration for Lights On, an event set to bring the NSU and Tahlequah communities together for the holiday season with the lighting of the historic Seminary Hall.

The event will be co-hosted by NSU First Lady Sara Hanley and Tahlequah Mayor Suzanne Myers.

NSU Drama and the College of Liberal Arts will produce the event which will include a pre-show of performances by choirs from Tahlequah elementary schools as well local dance studios. There will also be special appearances by Miss NSU, the NSU Drama Llama, Santa, Mrs. Claus and the elves.

“This is the first big holiday event in Tahlequah each year,” Dr. Robyn Pursley, assistant dean for the College of Liberal Arts, said. “It is exciting that it brings the campus and community together to start the season.”

Pursley said part of the tradition is that the College of Liberal Arts provides funding for each child to receive an ornament and small toy or goody bag when visiting Santa. Children will have the opportunity to meet Santa following the performances and lighting.

“We have some kids who have been collecting their Lights On ornaments each year they have attended and it is a fun tradition for them to be able to get them all out and put them on their tree each year,” Pursley said.

Lights On is open to students and community members at no cost.

Following Lights On, attendees can head over to the NSU Center for the Performing Arts for the Good Yule concert, featuring the entire NSU Department of Music. The show will start at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students.
