NSU announces new online elementary education graduate certificate
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Northeastern State University is launching a new Elementary Education Graduate Certificate program. The 12-credit hour program is completely online and is designed for teachers seeking to further their education or on alternative pathways to gain certification in Oklahoma.
The certificate program builds upon teachers’ foundational knowledge, enhancing their skills in classroom management, elementary anchored teaching practices and curriculum development, while also staying informed on current trends and developments in elementary education.
“We are thrilled to be offering a specialized Elementary Education certificate here at NSU,” Dr. Brandy-Lea McCombs, assistant professor of elementary education, said. “This certificate strengthens the teacher professional's pedagogical knowledge while anchoring it to current research.”
The program can be completed in as little as one to two years, offering a flexible and convenient option for busy educators.
McCombs added that in completing this certificate, elementary education teachers will not only expand their understanding, but will gain confidence as they meet the ever-changing needs of their students. She said the certificate is 100% online and compliments the full-time working professional.
“This new certificate program reflects our commitment to providing high-quality, accessible education that empowers teachers to excel in their careers and make a lasting impact on the lives of young students,” NSU President Rodney Hanley said.
Teachers can expect to receive expanded and up-to-date knowledge upon completion of the certificate program. For those not traditionally certified, this graduate certificate provides a pathway to complete the Oklahoma Teaching Certification.
