NSU celebrates 24 years of student discovery at Undergraduate Research Day

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State University will host its 24th annual Undergraduate Research Day, a signature academic tradition that highlights the creativity, innovation and scholarship of NSU’s undergraduate students. The free event will take place on the Tahlequah campus.

Undergraduate Research Day celebrates the diverse and dynamic research taking place across NSU’s colleges, offering students the opportunity to share their work with peers, faculty and community members. The event reflects the university’s commitment to immersive learning experiences that promote discovery and student success.

“NSU Undergraduate Research Day is a tradition that honors the immersive learning experiences of our undergraduate students,” said Dr. Cami Valdez, assistant dean and event organizer. “During this event, we celebrate the work of our students and get to share in seeing the diversity of research, learning and creativity happening across campus.”

The morning poster session will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom, where attendees can meet student presenters and explore their projects. The afternoon Outstanding Scholar Presentations will follow from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the UC Ballroom Lounge, featuring oral presentations representing each of NSU’s colleges.

“Through this event, we’re able to showcase the important work our students are doing—work that leads to new discoveries, expands knowledge and supports student success at NSU and beyond,” Valdez said. “Our students and faculty are producing high-quality research right here in Northeast Oklahoma, and we’re proud to share those accomplishments with our community.”

NSU President Rodney Hanley said Undergraduate Research Day exemplifies the university’s mission to empower students through discovery and hands-on learning.

“Undergraduate Research Day showcases the remarkable talent and curiosity of our students,” Hanley said. “It’s a celebration of how learning at NSU extends beyond the classroom—where students engage in real-world inquiry, develop critical skills and contribute to the communities we serve.”

Undergraduate Research Day continues to serve as a cornerstone of NSU’s academic mission, fostering curiosity, collaboration and excellence among students and faculty.
