NSU earns national recognition for excellence in online nursing education

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State University (NSU) has once again been recognized by The Princeton Review as one of the nation’s best online master’s programs in nursing.

The organization evaluated institutions nationwide and selected NSU’s online Master of Science in Nursing program for its strength in preparing nurses for roles in education, administration, leadership and policy.

“NSU’s nursing program aligns strongly with workforce and community needs,” Dr. Heather Fenton, director of nursing, said. “We emphasize active learning, faculty expertise, individualized support and online flexibility. These strategies support working nurses without compromising academic quality.”

NSU’s program also continues to stand out for affordability. At $250 per credit hour, it remains one of the most cost-effective online MSN options in the country. The degree offers specialized tracks in Administrative Leadership in Nursing, Nursing Education and Nursing Informatics.

In addition to the online MSN, NSU offers an online RN-to-BSN program. Both programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

The university will further expand its nursing pathway with the launch of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Prelicensure) program in fall 2026. The hybrid program is designed to help address Oklahoma’s nursing shortage while providing an accessible route for students seeking to enter the profession.

“This recognition highlights our mission to expand access to high-quality nursing education and prepare graduates to serve communities where they are most needed,” NSU President Rodney Hanley said. “We remain committed to innovation, excellence and supporting nurses for the evolving demands of healthcare.”
