NSU encourages Native nursing students to apply for NEORAAIN support before March 1

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Native American students preparing for careers in nursing at Northeastern State University have a key opportunity approaching: the NEORAAIN scholarship deadline on March 1.

The Northeast Recruitment and Advancement of American Indians into Nursing programs was created to help Native students overcome financial challenges that often stand between them and a nursing degree. With scholarship support that covers tuition and essential clinical experience, the program also offers a guided pathway for Northeastern Oklahoma A&M students who plan to continue into advanced nursing programs at NSU.

“Northeastern State University is deeply committed to supporting Native American students who are called to serve their communities through healthcare,” NSU President Rodney Hanley said. “The NEORAAIN program removes financial barriers and creates a clear pathway for Native nursing students to succeed, while strengthening the healthcare workforce in communities across our region.”

To qualify for the scholarship, students must be:

  • Full-time in an ADN, RN-to-BSN or RN-to-MSN program at NSU or NEO
  • A member of a federally recognized tribe
  • Willing to serve two years in an Indian Health Services clinic after graduation

The program is funded by the Indian Health Service and supported by NSU, NEO and the Inter-Tribal Council, Inc. Together, these partners aim to strengthen Native American representation in the healthcare workforce and support students committed to serving tribal communities.

Students are encouraged to apply before March 1, 2026. Additional information can be found at the NSU NEORA AIN Scholarship webpage.
