Northeastern State University hosts statewide scholars for Oklahoma Research Day 2026
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – On Feb. 27, 2026, Northeastern State University hosted nearly 650 registered attendees from 18 institutions across the state for Oklahoma Research Day (ORD).
A statewide conference that has occurred each spring for the last 26 years, the event celebrates student and faculty research while bringing students from all backgrounds and educational interests together. This year's theme was "Silver Linings: Research Illuminating a Brighter Future."
Attendees were welcomed by NSU President Rodney Hanley, Chief Executive Officer for the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, Chancellor Sean Burrage, Cherokee Nation Principal Chief, Chuck Hoskin Jr. and NSU Provost, Dr. Carla Swearingen.
Internationally acclaimed molecular biologist and science educator Dr. Raven Baxter, widely known as “Raven the Science Maven,” delivered the keynote address.
After the opening remarks, attendees were excused to the NSU Jack Dobbins Field House to begin setting up their research findings and engage in discussion with fellow researchers.
The diverse intellectual landscape of Oklahoma’s higher education and featured student and faculty research were on display in eight disciplines:
- Business Administration
- Education and Professional Studies
- Fine Arts and Design
- Forensic Science Institute
- Health Professions
- Liberal Arts
- Mathematics and Science
A central hub for Oklahoma’s thriving research community, NSU featured a large scholarly showing with 130 participants representing Northeastern specifically.
Three students were awarded 2026 Best NSU Graduate Student Poster honors, including:

ORD 2026 also featured a Career and Graduate School Fair, offering opportunities to connect with employers, graduate programs and organizations from across the region.
