NSU Jazz Ensemble semester debut set for Oct. 5

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. —  The Northeastern State University Jazz Ensemble will perform its first concert of the semester on Oct. 5.

“This concert is entitled, ‘New Beginnings,’ which is a reference to my taking the helm of the NSU jazz studies program, as well as the new influx of student talent that we are excited to be working with this year,” Dr. Jordan VanHemert, director of jazz studies at NSU, said.

The concert will consist of six pieces that showcase the span of jazz from the 1950s to present day.

The performance will take place on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Center for the Performing Arts on the NSU Tahlequah campus. Admission to the show is free.

“The students have been working very hard to prepare this program and look forward to sharing it with the community,” VanHemert said.
