NSU leads regional music education with 59th Annual Green Country Jazz Festival

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State University (NSU) will host the 59th Annual Green Country Jazz Festival on March 1–2, 2026, at the NSU Center for the Performing Arts on the Tahlequah campus. A longstanding tradition, the festival highlights both distinguished guest artists and outstanding regional student musicians.

This year’s event features acclaimed saxophonist Adam Larson, who will perform alongside the NSU Jazz Orchestra.

“NSU’s involvement in the festival enriches K–12 music education across Oklahoma,” Dr. Jordan VanHemert, assistant professor of music at NSU, said. “We’re also proud to provide affordable entertainment for the Tahlequah community, thanks in part to support from the Oklahoma Arts Council.”

The festival reflects NSU’s commitment to cultural and educational outreach in the region.

“We take pride in serving as a cultural anchor for northeast Oklahoma,” NSU President Rodney Hanley said. “The Green Country Jazz Festival showcases artistic excellence while creating meaningful opportunities for the next generation of music leaders.”

Festival activities begin with free high school showcases at 9 a.m. at the NSU Center for the Performing Arts. The event concludes with an evening concert featuring Larson and the NSU Jazz Orchestra. Tickets for the March 2 performance are $12 for general admission and $6 for students, staff and faculty, available at the door. All events are open to the public.
