NSU named nation’s Most Affordable Online Master’s Degree in Special Education

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Northeastern State University has received recognition as the most affordable online special education master’s program according to an annual report by OnlineU.com

NSU was listed No. 1 on the website’s 2024 Most Affordable Online Master’s Degrees in Special Education list. The list features the 20 most affordable colleges and universities that offer a Master of Education in Special Education program fully online.

“NSU’s Special Education program is proud to be ranked as the No.1 most affordable online program,” Dr. Jarilyn Haney, special education program chair, said. “We take pride in knowing that we are offering a program that is both affordable and high quality.”

Online programs give students the ability to work toward their degree while balancing the other aspects of their lives. Haney said their faculty are specialists in their field and are dedicated to helping students succeed.

“Our online program allows our students the comfort and flexibility to learn wherever and whenever it is best for them,” Haney said.

According to OnlineU, in order to be considered for the Most Affordable Online Master’s Degrees list, institutions must meet the following requirements: must be an accredited institution, offer fully online degree programs, have online student enrollment data available on the National Center for Education Statistics’ database and an annual tuition that is below $30,000, excluding fees. OnlineU employees then manually research and verify the requirements and tuition data.

“This recognition highlights Northeastern’s commitment to providing high-quality, accessible education for all students,” NSU President Rodney Hanley said. “Our faculty and staff have worked diligently to create a program that meets the needs of today’s educators while maintaining affordability, and this ranking is a reflection of their dedication.”
