Northeastern State University Playhouse presents “Judevine”

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. –The Northeastern State University (NSU) Playhouse will present its upcoming production of “Judevine” Feb. 18–21 at 7:30 p.m. each evening in the NSU Playhouse, 300 N. Muskogee Ave.

Judevine,” a poetic work by playwright David Budbill, invites audiences into the lives of residents in a small rural town as they navigate love, hardship, humor and community. Through deeply human stories and vivid characters, the play offers an honest and often tender portrayal of everyday life.

“A play like this is important for our students to experience because it pushes them to see the value of theatricality and differing performance styles,” Dr. Robyn Pursley, NSU assistant dean for the College of Liberal Arts, said. “We try to expose our students to a diverse array of play styles and this type of show helps us achieve that mission.”

Pursley added that the production carries a special connection to NSU. “It is exciting to be doing this play since it was done previously by the NSU theatre program in 1991. There are some alumni who were in the ’90s production who will be attending our spring production, and that's always a full-circle moment that reflects the rich tapestry of tradition that is NSU drama.”

NSU President Rodney Hanley said the production reflects NSU’s commitment to experiential learning and the arts.

“Productions like “Judevine” showcase the power of storytelling and the role the arts play in helping students explore the human experience,” Hanley said. “The NSU Playhouse provides an environment where students can grow creatively, connect with our community and bring meaningful stories to life on stage.”

Tickets may be purchased at the NSU Playhouse box office, open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m., or online at nsuplayhouse.ludus.com.

NSU students are admitted free to all performances. Please note mature themes and language are included in this production.
