NSU Performing Arts presents Dr. Jordan VanHemert Faculty Recital

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. —The Northeastern State University School of Performing Arts will be featuring a faculty recital from Dr. Jordan VanHemert, director of Jazz Studies at NSU, on Nov. 2.

VanHemert will showcase music he previously played on a tour with world-renowned flugelhornist Dmitri Matheny at the recital. The concert will be in a jazz quartet setting with collaborative musicians Scott McQuade on piano, Dean DeMerritt on bass and Dave Bowen on drums.

“The recital offers me the opportunity to share my professional activity—research—with the NSU campus community,” VanHemert said. “Recitals are an opportunity to both inform and entertain at the same time.”

VanHemert is a recognized saxophonist, composer and educator. He has four critically acclaimed releases to his credit and a fifth on the way in early 2024. He holds a doctorate of musical arts from the University of Illinois and has an active international performance schedule with upcoming tours in Spain, Korea, Vietnam and the Philippines.

VanHemert’s performance will take place on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. at the NSU Jazz Lab located in downtown Tahlequah. Admission to the show is free and open to the public.
