NSU Football historic return to Broken Arrow against Missouri Southern

NSU Football makes historic return to Broken Arrow against Missouri Southern – Sept. 28

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Northeastern State University Football is set to make a historic return to Broken Arrow for the first time since 1911, as the RiverHawks take on Missouri Southern on Sept. 28. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Tiger Memorial Stadium on the Broken Arrow High School campus.

The game marks over a century since NSU has played in Broken Arrow, offering alumni and fans a unique opportunity to witness their team in a new venue.

“NSU is a proud RUSO institution that supports northeastern Oklahoma’s educational needs,” NSU President Rodney Hanley said. “Having a football game in Broken Arrow will allow our alumni, students and future students the opportunity to cheer on the RiverHawks and further connect to NSU.”

Hanley said Broken Arrow City Administrators and Broken Arrow Public School Employees have been instrumental in allowing NSU to host the game in their community.

“The City Council and Administration are proud to have Northeastern State University as part of our community,” Broken Arrow Mayor Debra Wimpee said. “Our partnership with NSU strengthens the connection between education, athletics and local growth. Events like this game showcase the mutual benefits of that collaboration, and we are excited to support the university’s presence in Broken Arrow. It’s a win-win for our residents and students alike.”

John Sisemore, NSU Director of Athletics, said he greatly appreciates the partnership with BAHS Athletics and the support NSU Athletics has received from Visit Broken Arrow.

“What a great opportunity to play in one of the finest high school facilities around,” Sisemore said. “BAHS Executive Director of Athletics, Dr. Dustin Smith, and his staff have gone out of their way to help bring this event to the people of Broken Arrow and Tulsa.”

Sisemore said the main goal for the Broken Arrow game is to highlight the NSU-Broken Arrow campus and strengthen connections with NSU alumni in the Tulsa metro area, as well as provide alumni with the chance to attend a game in their backyard.

Tailgating will begin at 11 a.m. in the Tiger Plaza, located south of the stadium. NSU Foundation and Alumni Association will host their “Green and White” tailgating space, offering a central hub for fans, alumni and students to gather.

High school students from Broken Arrow and the greater Tulsa metro will receive free admission by presenting their student ID or wearing their school football jersey. As a special incentive, attendees will have the chance to win a vehicle as part of a halftime promotion, sponsored by a local dealership.

Additionally, two high school seniors will have the opportunity to win a tuition waiver for six credit hours for the Fall 2025 semester.

Tickets will be available for purchase starting on Sept. 21. NSU will follow BAHS Clear Bag Policy, fans are encouraged to review the guidelines prior to game day. To view the Clear Bag Policy or to purchase tickets, visit vivenu.com/event/football-vs-mssu-8mbv2n.
