NSU named Most Affordable Online Master’s Degree in Library Science
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State University has received recognition as the most affordable online library science master’s program according to an annual report by OnlineU.com
NSU was listed No.1 on the website’s 2024 Most Affordable Online Master’s Degrees in Library Science list. The list consists of the 20 most affordable colleges and universities that offer an online graduate program in library science.
“Our graduate program is designed specifically for working adults, offering a fully online format that provides the flexibility needed to balance their continued education with their professional responsibilities,” Dr. Alesha Baker, chair of the Library Media and Information Technology program, said. “While the program is fully online, our faculty remain available and supportive, fostering a collaborative learning environment. We prioritize building professional networks among our faculty, candidates and alumni, which enriches the learning experience and enhances career opportunities.”
Baker said the program continually updates their curriculum to align with current practices and trends in the field of school librarianship and educational technology, which ensures their candidates gain relevant skills for today’s educational landscape.
“Being recognized as the most affordable online library science program draws a diverse range of students to our school library program, enabling them to pursue their academic and professional goals without incurring excessive debt,” Baker said. “This focus on affordability not only supports individual success, but also helps address the ongoing shortage in the field by attracting talent from various backgrounds.”
According to OnlineU, in order to be considered for the Most Affordable Online Master’s Degrees list, institutions must meet the following requirements: must be an accredited institution, offer fully online degree programs, have online student enrollment data available on the National Center for Education Statistics’ database and an annual tuition that is below $30,000, excluding fees. OnlineU employees then manually research and verify the requirements and tuition data.
“This recognition reflects our commitment to providing high-quality, accessible education,” NSU President Rodney Hanley said. “We are proud to offer a program that not only meets the needs of today’s professionals but also makes a significant impact on the future of this industry.”
