Northeastern State University to host Reach Higher Reconnect event

Northeastern State University to host Reach Higher Reconnect event – Dec. 10, 2024

MUSKOGEE, Okla. — An in-person Reach Higher Reconnect event will be held at the Northeastern State University Muskogee campus on Dec. 10. The event will be a family affair with plenty of activities for children and is free to attend.

Reach Higher program representatives will be present to provide information to adults in attendance who are searching for an opportunity to learn more about finishing their bachelor’s degree while balancing their many competing interests.

“We design our courses to be flexible for the adult learner,” Michelle Farris, NSU adult degree completion coordinator, said. “They are designed specifically for that population, so our students have flexibility on what days of the week they complete their work. They are given plenty of time to work on everything because of our online course structure. We use modules, so they don't have to complete assignments every day. Also, it is completely online and that's another bonus. If they're raising a family, it's hard for them to come to campus and sit in class several nights a week, so the flexibility of the program is a better fit for their lifestyle.”

Reach Higher is an Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education’s initiative with a goal to assist adult learners in successfully finishing their undergraduate degree at one of seven OSRHE institutions, which includes NSU.

“The inspiration to reconnect with adult learners is to help them finish the Bachelor's degree,” Farris said. “I see how transformative it is for working adults to finish a Bachelor's degree and increase their earning potential. It's not only good for them, it's good for their entire family.”

The NSU Reach Higher program was created to provide a pathway to adults who are at least 21-years-old, have completed at least 60 hours of college credit and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA to complete their degree. The degree program has five year-round start dates and offers scholarships to eligible students in the program.

Participants will enjoy snacks, food from Olive Garden, a coloring station, games for children and a special appearance by Santa Claus. Adult attendees will have the opportunity to win a Bogg Bag or a Stanley Tumbler. The event will begin at 1 p.m. and conclude at 6 p.m. on the NSU-Muskogee Campus.
