NSU Playhouse: The place for live theatre and community in Tahlequah

Tahlequah, Okla. – The Northeastern State University Playhouse invites the community to experience a new lineup of performances, continuing a longstanding tradition as Tahlequah’s home for the arts. This season, audiences can look forward to a wide variety of productions—from timeless classics to family favorites.

More than just the lineup of shows, the Playhouse represents tradition and community. For many years, students, alumni and theatre fans have filled the Playhouse seats to enjoy performances that entertain, challenge and connect.

Dr. Robyn Pursley, NSU Drama Program Director, says the season reflects both the artistry of NSU students and the legacy of the Playhouse itself.

“NSU is all about tradition, and our drama program has a long history of excellence and connectivity among alumni,” Pursley said. “Producing shows that have been part of the Playhouse’s past, like Judevine and You Can’t Take It With You, helps us carry that legacy forward.”

This year’s NSU Drama season features a dynamic mix of student-led productions, starting with Judevine by David Budbill (Feb. 18–21, 2026), a powerful two-act play that explores the lives of working-class residents in a fictional Vermont town. Next up is Jack and the Beanstalk (Sept. 18), Wonderful World by Richard Dresser (Nov. 5–8), followed by the delightful and heartwarming classic You Can’t Take It With You by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart (April 15–18, 2026).

These performances join the broader season lineup that includes Sequoyah Institute events such as An Evening with Larry Gatlin (Sept. 13-sold out), Artrageous (Nov. 23), Face Vocal Band (Jan. 22–23), Next up is An Evening of Comedy with NSU alum and nationally touring comedian Jamie Campbell (Feb. 27, 2026) and more.

“This season, we are thrilled to celebrate the arts as a vital part of our university’s mission to inspire, educate and connect,” NSU President Rodney Hanley said. “The performing arts bring our community together and give voice to diverse stories and perspectives.”

Every performance takes place at the NSU Playhouse, located at 300 N. Muskogee Ave, making it a central destination for live theatre in the community. Tickets are available at the Playhouse box office Tuesday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m., or online at nsuplayhouse.ludus.com. Admission is free for NSU students.
