TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State University has been chosen as the next location to hold the annual Oklahoma Research Day. The theme for this year’s research day is “Bridging Tradition & Innovation.”

Oklahoma Research Day is a statewide conference that has occurred each spring for the last 25 years. The event celebrates student and faculty research, while bringing students from all backgrounds and educational interests together.

“It is really a great honor to hold such a large event on our campus welcoming researchers, students and families from across the state,” Dr. Jessica Secratt, director of research and sponsored programs, said. “NSU is excited for students to have the opportunity to showcase their research posters and discuss what they have learned throughout the year and what innovative studies they are conducting in their labs and classrooms.”

Secratt said her favorite part of Oklahoma Research Day is going around viewing the posters and discussing the projects with the students.

“ORD is not just about NSU, it is about innovative research in Oklahoma and students being able to present that research on their own,” Secratt said. “They are so proud of their research and the hard work they put into their presentation. They showcase how they apply their classroom knowledge to the real world and it is really amazing to see.”

Secratt said at last year’s research day there were over 1,200 attendees with 871 students and 381 research presentations. She said there is also a career and graduate fair for students, as well as breakout sessions with resume writing and career building skills. High schools are encouraged to attend and see first-hand what research is like at a college level.

“We are excited to welcome them to Tahlequah for the next two years,” Secratt said. “With over 30 employers, colleges and high schools attending, it is a great event. It is a great day for everyone and an amazing event for NSU to be putting on in 2025 and 2026.”

Abstract registrations are intended to be open Nov. 1, 2024 with a deadline to submit on Feb. 1, 2025. Oklahoma Research Day 2025 is March 7, 2025 at the NSU Tahlequah campus in the University Center and Jack Dobbins Fieldhouse. This is a free event with lunch provided.

“It is exciting for NSU to host an event that showcases the groundbreaking work of emerging researchers from across the state,” NSU President Rodney Hanley said. “The students who present their research here are the innovators, scientists and problem-solvers of the future. We are thrilled to be a part of their exciting journey.”
