River City Players return to Tahlequah for summer performances
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – From June 26 to Aug. 2, Northeastern State University’s River City Players will return to Tahlequah for another season of live music and theater.
Founded in 1983 by NSU, the River City Players is a professional summer theatre company composed of NSU students, alumni and students from other universities across the United States. Actors, musicians and technicians collaborate to produce live music shows that blend a variety of genres.
The program not only offers quality entertainment to Tahlequah residents and visitors, but also provides valuable hands-on experience for students. Produced by the NSU College of Liberal Arts, the Sequoyah Institute and NSU Drama, River City Players gives students real-world experience in live performance and stage production.
This summer’s shows include a rock 'n' roll revue, “Platinum Rock,” and a country show, “Country Gold.” Platinum Rock features hits by platinum-selling artists such as Elvis Presley, Madonna and the Beatles. Country Gold showcases songs by gold-certified country legends including Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline and Kenny Rogers.
"We’re always excited to bring classic songs back to the stage,” Robyn Pursley, NSU Assistant Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and RCP artistic director, said. “This summer, we’ll be revisiting lots of crowd favorites from the rock n’ roll and country genres."
“Platinum Rock” will be performed Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays at 1 p.m. “Country Gold” will be performed Fridays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 4 p.m.
Tickets are $17 for adults, $14 for seniors, $12 for NSU alumni and employees, $12 for groups of 10 or more, $10 for youth and free for NSU students.
