NSU’s Samarah Jones chosen to be a Brad Henry International Scholar

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State University senior, Samarah Jones has been selected as a 2025 Brad Henry International Scholar by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

Jones, a Sociology major with a minor in Information Systems from Oklahoma City, will spend the spring 2025 semester studying at Swansea University, Swansea, Wales, U.K.

She was nominated by NSU President Rodney Hanley. As a part of the scholarship, Jones will receive funding for a full semester of study at Swansea University including tuition and fees plus accommodation as well as a stipend to assist with airfare and passport fees to and from Wales.

“I applied for the scholarship because it has always been a dream of mine to travel abroad, and this scholarship made it possible for me,” Jones said. “My involvement with the international programs office allowed me to learn about all of the different programs that are offered, and the study abroad coordinator was incredibly supportive in guiding me through the Brad Henry Scholarship application process. I feel incredibly grateful to be offered this opportunity and I hope to make the most out of my experience.”

The Brad Henry International Scholarship program was established by the OSRHE in June 2008. The Regents provide a stipend for students selected to participate in the semester-long study or research programs affiliated with Swansea University. Recipients are selected by a committee of State Regents’ staff based on their excellent academic performance, outstanding communication skills, exemplary character, exceptional leadership, maturity and judgment.

“Here at NSU, we are committed to not only bringing the world to our institution, but our students to the world,” NSU President Rodney Hanley, said. “I am proud that our nominee will have the opportunity to enjoy the life-enriching benefits of studying abroad. This scholarship award is evidence of our renewed dedication to invest in our global partnerships with institutions around the world.”
