NSU’s Sigma Tau Gamma-Zeta Chapter wins top national award

Northeastern State University’s Sigma Tau Gamma-Zeta Chapter wins top national award—for second consecutive year

TAHLEQUAH, Okla.  The Zeta Chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma at Northeastern State University has once again earned national recognition, receiving the Edward H. McCune Distinguished Chapter Award from the Sigma Tau Gamma national organization for the second year in a row.

The prestigious award, presented in June 2025, honors the chapter’s excellence across all areas of fraternity operations—including academics, finance and operations, recruitment, education and wellness, campus engagement and community service.

First introduced in 1966, the McCune Award recognizes the top Sigma Tau Gamma chapter in the nation and is named after founder and former national president Dr. Edward H. McCune. Chapter performance is assessed using the McCune Metrics scorecard, a comprehensive tool that evaluates impact, leadership, and overall chapter health.

“This award is not just about one moment or one achievement—it's about consistently living our values of leadership, citizenship, excellence, learning, integrity and brotherhood in everything we do,” Joshua Harwell, President of NSU’s Sigma Tau Gamma-Zeta Chapter, said. “It reminds us that when we lead with intention and integrity, the impact can be seen far beyond NSU.”

The Zeta Chapter’s continued recognition reflects its long-standing commitment to the university, its fellow students and the surrounding community. The chapter maintains strong alumni involvement and remains a visible force for leadership, service and positive campus engagement.

NSU President Rodney Hanley praised the chapter’s achievement, noting the broader significance of the fraternity’s role on campus.

“Greek life has a rich and meaningful tradition at Northeastern State University, and the success of our Sigma Tau Gamma-Zeta Chapter is a proud example of that legacy. Their continued excellence—both on campus and in the community—demonstrates the values we hold dear at NSU—Our People. Our Place. Our Purpose.”

The Sigma Tau Gamma-Zeta Chapter has been a cornerstone of student life at NSU since their return in 2018, fostering a strong sense of brotherhood and community impact that endures well beyond graduation.
