NSU Voice Festival brings soprano Diana Newman to center stage

Hit the high notes! NSU Voice Festival brings soprano Diana Newman to center stage

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State University’s Department of Music welcomes internationally recognized soprano Diana Newman to the Tahlequah campus for the annual NSU Voice Festival on April 21.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. with Newman, accompanied by Tulsa Opera Principal Pianist Lyndon Meyer presenting a recital of operatic arias and art song repertoire.

On April 22 at 3 p.m., a free, pre-recital masterclass will be presented by the NSU Department of Music and Newman. This portion of the event will allow student musicians the opportunity to perform for the audience. Newman will provide expert pointers about their performance, afterward.

Newman earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from USC Thornton School of Music in 2012 and 2014, respectively. She has since gone on to debut with the Dallas Opera as First Lady in ‘Die Zauberflöte,’ to complete her tenure at Lyric Opera of Chicago and has performed in various concert halls, festivals and opera houses across the nation. She is currently studying with renowned Mezzo-Soprano Patricia McCaffrey.

Dr. Justin Kroll, director of opera at NSU, emphasized the importance of Newman’s visit to NSU and to its student musicians.

“Having the opportunity to meet and learn from artists of Ms. Newman's caliber is a valuable way for these students to feel connected to the world they hope to one day join,” Kroll said. “Beyond our students, having a singer like Ms. Newman in Tahlequah to present a recital is rare indeed, and a not-to-be-missed event for the NSU and wider Tahlequah community.”

Tickets for the NSU Voice Festival are $5 for students and seniors and $10 for adults.

All tickets are general admission. Each portion of the event will be held in the NSU Center for the Performing Arts.
