In the fall of 2014, President Steve Turner and the NSU Cabinet appointed a Strategic Planning Committee. Committee members include administrators, faculty, staff and students representing all campuses and units within the NSU community.

Dr. Turner gave the committee the following charge:

As an institution, consider where we have been, where we are now, and where we would like to be.

The committee undertook a complete review of the Mission, Vision and Values. Representatives gathered data on initiatives completed under the current strategic plan, or in progress. The committee reviewed the major university plans, such as the Master Plan and Destination 2023 and quality standards.

The following institutional priorities were identified and guide the planning process:

  • Academic and scholarly excellence
  • Student development and success
  • Enrollment, persistence and completion
  • Campus facilities and resources
  • Funding and advancement
  • Economic development and community stewardship
  • Honor institutional heritage
  • Continuous improvement

These principles and themes were incorporated into the Strategic Plan 2015-2023.
