Page Layout and Content Regions
This page explains the layout elements and content regions used on NSU web pages, including navigation, carousels, and editable content areas.
WYSIWYG Toolbar
The What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) toolbar is similar to other content editing toolbars, with additional Modern Campus CMS-specific options. This is the bar that opens up across the top of the page when you click on an editable region.
The WYSIWYG toolbar gives you buttons to represent every function available for editing the content. Clicking a button in the toolbar performs an action, either directly to the page, or to the selected text and media. Some buttons display more options in a dropdown menu or pop-up box.
The availability of a function is based on the location of the cursor on the page. For example, if no object is selected, Insert/Edit Link is dimmed (disabled). For Insert/Edit Link to be available, first select text or a graphic to link to.
Right-click the content for contextual functions. For example, right-clicking within a table provides a list of table editing functions.
Carousel
The carousel is a rotating image or content slider that appears near the top of the page. This element is used on most NSU pages.
Banner Error
When creating a new page, you may see an error message stating that a banner image and carousel cannot be used together.
To fix this issue:
- Check out the page.
- Open the Properties tab.
- Scroll to Custom Settings > General.
- Locate Banner Image and click Clear to remove the link.
- Click Save.
Side Navigation
The side navigation is the vertical menu displayed on the left side of the page. It shows links within a specific section of the website.
To request edits to the side navigation, contact

Side Navigation can be disabled in the Properties tab. When both Side Navigation and Side Content are turned off, the Main Content Regions expand to use the full page width.
Side Content
Side content is a supplemental content area located below the side navigation. It is often used for related information or callouts.
Side Content can be disabled in the Properties tab. When both Side Navigation and Side Content are turned off, the Main Content Regions expand to use the full page width.
Main Content Regions
Pages in OmniCMS are built using three main content regions. These regions help organize content on the page and determine where information is displayed. Understanding how each region works will help you place content correctly and maintain a consistent layout across the site.
Main Content (Region 1)
Region 1 is the primary editable content area of the page. Most page content should be placed here, including welcome messages and core information.
Main Content (Region 2)
Region 2 is a secondary content area used to extend or divide main content into logical sections. It is commonly used for additional details.
Main Content (Region 3)
Region 3 is an optional content area used for structured or specialized content. It can be used similarly to Regions 1 and 2.
Full Width Content
Full Width Content spans the entire width of the page below all other sections. This area is intended for specialized layouts or visual impact.
Note: Avoid using this region unless specifically needed.
