Mathematics Education major Sarah Kidd earns NSU’s top graduate honor
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State University (NSU) is proud to announce that Sarah Kidd, graduate student in the Mathematics Education M.Ed. program, has been named the recipient of the Spring 2026 Outstanding Graduate Student Award.
NSU graduate faculty award this honor to a student who demonstrates exceptional scholarly work, leadership and a commitment to their professional field. Kidd was selected from a competitive pool of twelve finalists, each nominated by their respective programs for their contributions to the community and university.
NSU President Rodney Hanley commended Kidd’s accomplishments.
"We are incredibly proud of Sarah Kidd for this well-deserved recognition,” Hanley said. “Her dedication to mathematics education and her commitment to the professional growth of her peers embody the spirit of leadership we strive to cultivate at Northeastern State University.”
Kidd’s impact in the field of mathematics education has been described as both profound and practical. Her advisor and thesis chair, Dr. Martha Parrott, highlighted Kidd’s ability to bridge the gap between academic theory and classroom application.
"Sarah exemplifies the highest standards of an outstanding graduate student through her intellectual curiosity, creativity, professional excellence and sustained commitment to mathematics education," Parrott said. "Her contributions include leading a Math Task Force, securing grants that enhance student engagement in mathematics and actively supporting the professional growth of both herself and her colleagues.”
Building on nine years of dedication as a Special Education and elementary teacher, Kidd embodies the RiverHawk spirit by fostering growth and community engagement across the district.
Dr. Iain Anderson, NSU Graduate College Dean, is proud of Kidd for her representation of the university.
“Sarah embodies NSU's mission, vision and values,” Anderson said. “She's taken advantage of the opportunities available to her and through hard work and dedication, has succeeded both in her academic goals and in finding ways to pass along her expertise and love of mathematics to her students, classmates and colleagues. She is a wonderful ambassador for the university.”
Kidd will be recognized with a medal during the Spring 2026 Commencement ceremony in Tulsa on May 11, 2026.
