NSU announces Fall 2026 Biology and Chemistry Seminar Series

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – Northeastern State University (NSU) invites the public to explore the frontiers of modern science during its Fall 2026 Biology and Chemistry Seminar Series, featuring expert presentations on pathogen research, cancer treatments and forensic DNA analysis.

The series allows professionals in biology and chemistry an opportunity to share the latest innovations and make connections. This fall’s series is organized by Dr. Dulanjani Wijayasekara, assistant professor of Biology, who says participants will gain new and creative glimpses at the current issues in biology and chemistry.

The series begins Aug. 28, from 10-10:25 a.m. is “Near-infrared Gold Nanorod Chemotherapy,” presented by Dr. Nathan Green, representing the Department of Physical Sciences at Northeastern State University.

From 10:30-10:55 a.m. “Decoding Pathogens: Evolution, Host Interactions and Control,” presented by Dr. Dulanjani Wijayasekara, representing the Department of Biological Sciences at Northeastern State University.

On Sept. 18, from 10-10:25 a.m. is “A Tale of Two Projects at NSU: One in Yeast, Another in Human Cells,” by Dr. Sapna Das-Bradoo, representing the Department of Biological Sciences at Northeastern State University.

Following that, from 10:30-10:55 a.m., is “Bladder Battles: The World of Uropathogens,” presented by Dr. Janaki Iyer, representing the Department of Biological Sciences at Northeastern State University.

On Oct. 9, from 10-11 a.m., is “Oklahoma’s Rapid DNA Investigative Lead Program,” presented by Dr. Beth A. Deen, representing the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

The series concludes Nov. 13, 10-11 a.m., with “Tiny Bugs, Big Trouble: Anaerobic Bacterial Pathogenesis,” presented by Dr. I-Hsiu Huang, representing the Department of Biochemistry & Microbiology at Oklahoma State University.

Wijayasekara expressed her pride at NSU and its faculty in the organization of this event.

“I am excited to welcome all of you for our Fall 2026 seminar series,” said Wijayasekara. “The first two sessions feature engaging presentations from our own NSU Broken Arrow faculty. Come participate and be a part of the conversation.”

President Rodney Hanley emphasized the strength of Northeastern State University’s scientific community.

All presentations will take place in the NSU-Broken Arrow auditorium with complimentary snacks and drinks. The seminars are free and open to the public.
