Northeastern State University Foundation partners with OBI and Donable® Cares for October blood drive

Blood donors participating in the Oct. 26-28 blood drive can help patients in need while supporting the Angel Tree Project

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State University (NSU) Foundation is partnering with Our Blood Institute (OBI) and Donable® Cares for an Oct. 26-28 blood drive that will address the national blood shortage while raising funds for the upcoming Angel Tree Project.

Donable® Cares will contribute $15 to the NSU Foundation to donors who give blood and register through the NSU Foundation’s designated link. First-time blood donors will generate up to a $175 contribution.

Blood donations help provide a vital resource for patients undergoing medical treatments, chemotherapy, emergency care and transfusions. Through this partnership, participants can help increase blood supplies while supporting the Foundation’s mission.

Peggy Glenn, NSU Foundation development director, explained why the donations from Donable® Cares will go towards supporting the Angel Tree Project.

"This is a great opportunity for donors to support NSU's Angel Tree Project, which provides gifts for local children who may not receive anything for the holidays,” said Glenn. “While NSU employees, student groups and community members choose most of the children on our Angel Trees, there are always some whose wishes might not be fulfilled. The Donable® Cares funds will allow us to ensure every child on our campus Angel Trees receives a gift."

Donable® Cares is a nonprofit affiliation of Donable®, an app that awards people to recruit blood donors. The partnership provides an opportunity for donors to support both community health and the NSU Foundation through a single blood donation.

Participants can donate at the OBI Bloodmobile, stationed on the circle drive in front of the University Center throughout the three-day drive.

The NSU Blood Drive schedule follows:

  • Oct. 26, 10 a.m-1:30 p.m.
  • Oct. 27, 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Oct. 28, 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

“This is a simple and effective way to make a difference for two important causes,” said NSU President Rodney Hanley. “Blood donations help patients when they need it most, while contributions to the NSU Foundation will help our communities during the holiday season.”
