NSU online Library Science program ranks No. 7 nationally

Program combines affordability, personalized support and real-world experience to prepare workforce-ready educators

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State University’s (NSU) online Library Science program has been ranked No. 7 nationally by OnlineMasters.com in its Best Online Master’s in Library Science Programs rankings.

NSU earned an OnlineMasters Score of 95.41 out of 100, placing the program among the nation’s top online options in a ranking that evaluated more than 2,000 accredited institutions.

For Dr. Heidi W Jenkins, an assistant professor in the Educational Leadership Department at NSU, affordability might be what first gets a prospective student’s attention, but personalized support and preparation for leadership are what set the program apart.

"Our program is consistently ranked as one of the most affordable online programs in Library Science, which can sometimes be the initial reason that students request more information about our program," Jenkins said. "They go on to pursue NSU as the place to obtain their degree because of our personalized approach to student success and how successful our program is at preparing our graduates to step into their roles as leaders within their school sites and learning communities."

That combination of affordability and personal support is paired with practical experience. NSU’s curriculum blends online coursework with hands-on experience, allowing candidates to work directly with mentor librarians as they develop programs designed to serve their school communities.

Accredited by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), the program prepares educators with the skills and best practices needed to serve school communities locally, nationally and around the world.

NSU President Rodney Hanley said the ranking reflects the university’s focus on making a high-quality education attainable while preparing graduates to contribute where they are needed most.

“Libraries are an important part of strong schools and communities, and the people who lead them need more than a degree,” Hanley said. “They need the skills to understand their schools, support their students and build programs that make a difference. That’s the kind of workforce-ready education we want NSU graduates to take with them.”
