NSU-Broken Arrow to become home of new regional CLEET office

Regional office will make state-certified training more accessible for officers across northeast Oklahoma

BROKEN ARROW, Okla.  – Northeastern State University (NSU) is partnering with the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) to establish a new regional office on the NSU-Broken Arrow campus, expanding access to law enforcement training and professional development throughout northeast Oklahoma.

The CLEET satellite office will provide law enforcement education and act as a regional training facility. New and current officers will be able to complete professional development and extended learning without the need for long-distance travel to Ada, where CLEET’s primary training center is located.

NSUBA was selected because of its central location and modern facilities, making law enforcement training more accessible for the Tulsa Metropolitan Area and surrounding communities.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by NSU President Rodney Hanley and CLEET Executive Director Shelby Humphrey on Aug. 24, strengthening NSU’s collaborative partnerships with public safety agencies, community partners and higher education. The College of Extended Learning will serve as the primary host for the new CLEET office.

Humphrey praised the partnership with Northeastern State University as a tremendous opportunity for CLEET and for the law enforcement professionals they serve across Oklahoma.

“By bringing continuing education closer to our officers and utilizing NSU’s outstanding facilities we can provide high-quality training in a university environment while strengthening the connection between higher education and the law enforcement profession,” Humphrey said. “We are grateful to NSU for investing in this partnership and in the continued professional development of Oklahoma’s law enforcement officers.”

Dr. Eloy Chavez, dean of College of Extended Learning, said this collaboration will strengthen workforce development and training across northeast Oklahoma.

“This partnership directly advances NSU’s mission of preparing a highly skilled workforce that meets the evolving needs of Oklahoma’s employers and communities,” Chavez said. “It reflects our institution’s commitment to serving business, industry and government needs by providing accessible, high-quality workforce education while addressing critical public safety needs.”

The regional office will give recruits, agencies and current officers greater access to state-certified law enforcement training while creating opportunities for officers to pursue higher education through NSU’s Criminal Justice program.

NSU President Rodney Hanley said the partnership expands access to professional training while strengthening Oklahoma’s public safety workforce.

“Strong communities begin with well-trained public safety professionals,” Hanley said. “By bringing a regional CLEET office to our Broken Arrow campus, we’re expanding access to high-quality training, strengthening Oklahoma’s law enforcement workforce and creating new pathways for education and professional advancement.”

The new regional office adds to NSU’s long history of preparing professionals who serve and protect Oklahoma communities. Through its Criminal Justice bachelor’s and master’s degrees, bachelor’s degrees in Cybersecurity and Homeland Security and Emergency Management, and certificate and continuing education programs, NSU provides education and training for careers that support public safety, security and emergency preparedness.

NSU already partners with CLEET through its Reserve Academy on the Tahlequah campus, where prospective peace officers complete certification in basic law enforcement training. The new regional office expands that relationship while increasing training and educational opportunities in northeast Oklahoma.
