NSU's online school administration degree ranks among nation’s best

Northeastern State University’s online school administration degree ranks among nation’s best

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. Northeastern State University (NSU) was recognized by OnlineMasters.com as one of Oklahoma’s top institutions for its online M.Ed. in School Administration for 2026. The program ranked No. 35 nationally among 50 programs selected from more than 2,000 accredited institutions and is the nation’s second most affordable program.

NSU earned recognition for its affordable tuition, low student-faculty ratio and overall academic quality. The ranking recognizes the university’s commitment to affordability, personalized instruction and student success, reinforcing NSU as Oklahoma’s No. 1 school administration degree program for affordability.

Dr. Barbara Jones, faculty of the M.Ed. in School Administration, said the program’s blend of flexibility and real-world application distinguishes it from other graduate programs.

“Our program is designed by educators who have served as teachers, principals and district leaders,” said Jones. “We continually evaluate our curriculum to ensure it reflects current educational research, state leadership standards and the evolving needs of today's schools, while giving working professionals the flexibility to earn their degree and certification online.”

NSU’s M.Ed. in School Administration prepares graduates with the necessary skills to succeed as principals, superintendents, district administrators and other educational leaders. Its hybrid format and field-based approach offer working professionals the flexibility to immediately apply classroom learning in their schools and districts.

NSU President Rodney Hanley said the recognition reflects the university’s commitment to preparing educational leaders across Oklahoma and beyond.

“This national ranking reinforces the important role graduate education plays in preparing tomorrow’s educational leaders,” Hanley said. “NSU is proud to provide high-quality, accessible programs that help educators advance their careers while addressing workforce needs throughout Oklahoma.”

The recognition comes as NSU continues to expand opportunities for current and aspiring educational leaders. Beginning in fall 2026, the university will welcome the inaugural cohort of its first Doctorate of Education program in Community-Based Leadership.
