On the road again! NSU River City Players to perform River City Roadtrip shows

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State University (NSU) River City Players are hitting the road this summer with two musical revues, “Rockin’ in the USA” and “Country Cruisin’.”

Originally founded as the University Players, the River City Players is an NSU theatre company that has entertained audiences for more than 40 seasons.

The River City Players give theatre and music students valuable hands-on performance experience while also providing the community with an opportunity to enjoy local live entertainment.

This season’s productions take audiences on a musical road trip across America. “Rockin’ in the USA” will feature songs from America’s rock-and-roll history, while “Country Cruisin’” celebrates iconic country artists and destinations through classic and contemporary country hits.

“We are so excited to be presenting the 43rd season of summer shows at the NSU Playhouse,” Dr. Robyn Pursley, artistic director of the River City Players, said. “The summer season is one of my favorite projects because it allows our students to experience a true professional theatre process and to focus on production for a series of weeks rather than only days as we do in our regular academic year productions.”

NSU President Rodney Hanley noted that the River City Players shows give students an opportunity to grow as performers while connecting with audiences across the region.

“The River City Players have long been a special part of summer at NSU,” Hanley said. “It gives our students the chance to sharpen their talents through real-world performance experience while sharing their creativity and passion with audiences across the area. We are proud to welcome the community to the NSU Playhouse for another season of outstanding entertainment.”

The River City Players will perform at the NSU Playhouse in Tahlequah from June 20 through Aug. 1.

“Rockin’ in the USA” performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays and 1 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. “Country Cruisin’” performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
